Sight words
Common words a child should recognize instantly, without sounding out.
Sight words (often the Dolch or Fry lists) are high-frequency words like 'the,' 'said,' and 'was' that appear constantly and often don't follow regular phonics rules. Recognizing them instantly lets a child read smoothly instead of stopping on every other word.
