Math & reading standards and testing in Idaho
Updated June 2026
Idaho's Content Standards for ELA and math are based on the Common Core State Standards. Students in grades 3-8 take the ISAT, which uses the Smarter Balanced tests each spring.
Does Idaho hold kids back in 3rd grade for reading?
No. Idaho screens early readers with the Idaho Reading Indicator and funds intervention, but has no mandatory 3rd-grade retention gate.
