Regrouping
Trading between place-value columns when adding or subtracting (carrying and borrowing).
Regrouping is the modern name for what many parents learned as 'carrying' and 'borrowing.' When a column adds to more than nine, you regroup ten ones into a ten; when you can't subtract, you regroup a ten into ten ones. Understanding place value first makes regrouping click.
